Good morning Cross Lanes Folks!

It’s time for another Check In.

I hope your week is going well so far.

This is the first week in a few that is going well with no hospital visits for our family. And boy am I glad!

Have you ever had a string of time like that?

This past few weeks has been that for me. Interestingly enough I met several wonderful people and was able to always find God at work in the midst of the craziness and hard times. Caring Doctors and Nurses, other patients in the waiting rooms (lots of time spent there), janitorial staff and many more. I hope that I was able to bring Christ into those spaces as well and I pray a little more light was there than before.

This past Saturday was also a highlight as I got to, along with a pastor friend of mine, teach my first ERT training and it went very well. With all the flooding that continues to happen and the other natural disasters that come and go, ERT’s are more needed than ever! I give praise to God that I can be a part of this vital ministry.

Finally, I was able, along with several others from CLUMC, to attend the District Days event in Hurricane last night and it was wonderful to be together with about 140 other folks from around the district, our District Superintendent, and our Bishop! It was a great reminder of why it is so great to be a part of the connectional church! In addition, there will be a surprise that I will share with you all next Sunday in church!

God'z Kids invite you to join them this evening for a full evening of learning and fun.

Tonight God'z Kids will be tie-dying tonight and continuing Joseph’s Story.

The United Methodist Men will be having their third Litter pick-up this Saturday September 26th. Men let's gather at the church at 7:30am so that we may get started at 8am.

This is Statewide Pick-up. Everyone who participates will receive a token of Appreication from the state of WV.

Wednesday Night Dinner: Phillip's WVU Tail Gate party

Next week's Wednesday night dinner sponsored by the United Methodist Men will be a WVU tailgate party in honor of our late custodian, Phillip, who went home to be with his Lord !

The men are asking that you wear your collegiate gear! The United Methodist Men will provide the hotdogs and hamburgers. Please bring your favorite tailgate food to share.

There will be a BIG WVU cake for dessert. There will be a Celebration of Life for Phillip following the meal.

Rev. Nick Schindler carrying a 75 pounds cross across the United States.

The United Methodist Men are opening up their October meeting to the whole church. Speaker will be Rev. Nick Schindler. Rev. Schindler has carried a 75 pound wooden cross across the United States for the past two years. (read information about Nick below).

The meeting will begin with a dinner at 6pm and then Rev. Schindler will be speaking about his journey across the United States. The men ask that you let one of the officers know if you plan to attend so that they can order enough food. Dinner will be $10 each and that covers the meal and the program.

Pastor Nick Schindler is a well-known individual who spent two years walking across the United States carrying a 75-pound wooden cross to advocate for the homeless and share a message of faith. He will have the 75 pound cross with him, so that you if would like to touch it or hold it, you may.

Details of the Journey The Mission:

Pastor Nick Schindler carried the heavy cross from Oregon to the White House in Washington, D.C., to raise awareness for affordable housing and support for unhoused people.

Personal Backstory: Schindler experienced homelessness and addiction in his youth before his faith helped him turn his life around.The Cross: His wooden cross weighed 75 pounds and was carried without a wheel.

Other Notable Cross-Carriers While Schindler completed a high-profile walk recently, other individuals have famously undertaken similar pilgrimages across America and the world over the decades:

Arthur Blessitt: Known for holding the Guinness World Record for the longest walk, Blessitt carried a 12-foot cross through nearly every nation on Earth over several decades starting in 1968 before passing away in January 2025.

Gregory Jones: Another pilgrim who began walking across America carrying a cross in 2019 to share the gospel.Arthur Blessitt Evangelistic Association.
